It is important to have large a pupil as possible when performing phacoemulsification cataract surgery. Numerous techniques have been used over the years in an attempt to dilate the pupil. The different techniques used to dilate the pupil is as follows –
- Pupil Retractor Hooks
- Pupil Dilator Ring (PMMA)
- Viscoelastic Agent
Out of the three Pupil Retractor Hooks & Pupil Dilator Ring is the Pupil stretching techniques, which have gained popularity in recent years. This procedure uses two iris retractors or iris hooks, or small two – or three point semicircular resilient PMMA ring substantially V or C shaped in cross section called Pupil Dilator.
If we compare all the above three types used for dilating the pupil it is found that all three methods are effective. The pupil dilator ring & iris retractors are a bit time consuming methods but they provide most stable enlarged pupil size as compare to viscoelastic agent. The pupil dilator ring causes least trauma to the iris as compare to the iris retractor. Because of the above advantages of pupil dilator ring over iris retractor & viscoelastic agent JFOPL decided to develop this (Pupil Dilator) product, which can help eye surgeons during the cataract surgery. |
