The sterile single use injector (AP:INJ013) & cartridge (APC-0265) supplied by John Fowler Ocular Lenses Pvt. Ltd. are intended to assist in implanting foldable lens during a small incision cataract surgery with the help of silicon cushion. The cartridge is made of medical grade polypropylene and silicon cushion is made of medical grade silicon rubber. The cartridge & injector are easy to use and have ability to pass a foldable intraocular lens through smaller incision.

How To Use - Step 1

Step 1: Open the flanges of the cartridge & make it as flat as possible.

Step 2 : Apply the coating of viscoelastic in the taper cylindrical tip of the cartridge (barrel) & two half circular portion of the flanges. It is recommended that for coating of barrel & cartridge, surgeon should use the viscoelastic material with which he is more comfortable.

Step 3 : Place the lens in the cartridge with leading haptic into cartridge conical tunnel & lens well pressed by forceps into two half round path of the cartridge, close the cartridge approximately 1/3 to 1/2 way. While closing the flanges ensures that the lens (haptic & optic) is placed in cartridge rightly.

Step 4 : Now remove the forcep. By doing minute observation gently close the flanges to form the circular tunnel. While closing the flanges using an appropriate instrument ensure that the trailing haptic is secured in the fold of optic. Ensure that the trailing haptic does not get pinched into the flanges of the cartridge.

Step 5 : Now check the lens-loaded cartridge by visual observation for proper placement of the lens & its haptics into the cartridge.

Step 6 : Now the cartridge is ready for loading into the disposable injector AP: INJ013. Insert the back end of the cartridge into injector from front open end of the injector by holding the flanges of the cartridge.

How To Use - Step 7
Step 7 : Push the cartridge into the injector slot till it gets locked in the injector's lock so that while pushing by plunger from back it should not come out from the injector. If the cartridge does not get fixed properly in the injector it means the preparation of the cartridge is not done properly hence the procedure from step 1 to 6 shall be repeated again.

Step 8 : Now insert the tip of the barrel in to the eye push the plunger from the back (taking the advantage of flexibility of plunger guide the plunger properly into the hole of silicon cushion so that the lens moves smoothly through the cartridge) till the lens gets delivered into the eye. It is recommended that while pushing the lens into in the eye minutely observes the delivery of the lens in the eye & proper functioning of the injector & cartridge. At any point of time if the surgeon feels that the intended functioning is not happening take out the cartridge & injector from the eye & take necessary corrective measures.

  • Do not reuse the injector, cartridge & silicon cushion.
